My Addiction to Field of Dreams

OK, so I am totally enamored with the movie Field of Dreams. As coincidence would happen, the Kevin Costner arrived at the Tacoma Narrows Airport last week. Rumors started to fly as to why Kevin might be visiting our fair city. And then the local bloggers came up with all of the answers:

*World Famous* Bob's Java Jive 2102 South Tacoma Way (253)475-9843 & Kevin

The vintage ferry Kalakala & Kevin. (did any of you see the movie Waterworld??? Yeah, me neither.)

The Bulls Eye Tacoma shooting range & Kevin (you may know the Bulls Eye from the story about the Washington DC sniper. Yup, the sniper was from Tacoma & got his weapons from the Bulls Eye. If I remember correctly, George Bush referred to Tacoma as the access of evil)

And now for the best of the best. This is the creation of our own little Mitchy. He made this just for me (thanks Mitch). I am not sure if I am that thrilled with this image, but Frisko Freeze is our neighborhood hamburger stand. Frisko Freeze, Kevin Costner & Field of Dreams .... a beautiful thing.

Greetings from Iowa

My favorite all time movie is Field of Dreams ... Don't ask me why. I could just watch this movie every single day for the rest of my life. Today, my phone rang and a little voice said, " Hi Sandy, we are at a place that you want to go to really, really bad." It was Eve and I knew exactly where she was. She was in Dyersville, Iowa on Lansing Road. This is the location of the movie, Field of Dreams. Isn't it beautiful? The field, the house, the corn, it's all there!!! Sigh.

Look at these lucky kids .... they are standing in the same corn that Ray Liotta & James Earl Jones disappeared into. The same corn that Kevin Costner walked around in. I hope they realize how lucky they are.

And the wind up. Here goes Eve with the throw to the plate!!! Wow, she's good enough to make it to the bigs, I think the White Sox need a little help.

Saaa MACK!!!!!!!! Shoeless Joe Jackson hits another one out of the park!!! Actually its Eli, doesn't he look great! And the crowd goes wild. Kinda. I guess they don't pay extras what they used to.

OK, that's it. I can't believe Eve & Eli are there. It's not fair. They haven't even seen the movie once & I have watched it eleventy million times! I need to walk through the corn, stand on the field and spend a ridiculous amount of money in the gift shop. "For reasons I can't even explain, I am going to Iowa." Look out Dean & Sue, the Field of Dreams stalker is coming to town.

Showcase Tacoma

Tacoma School of the Arts, in partnership with Metro Parks sponsor Showcase Tacoma in the summer. It's a festival of art, in many forms, with food & beverages on the side. Some of the best of the free art are the sideway drawings by SOTA students.

We ran into Jimmy Gosselin as he was firing raku pots. M Space was also in attendance demonstrating the art of glassblowing.

And who is this? Could it be one of the stars of the motion picture hit, "South 5"???? Yes I do believe it is, Mr. Mitch Robinson. Hey Mitch, how's that sequel coming along???

The weather was great as we sat in the beer garden, overlooking the main stage and some very talented Cambodian dancers.

Paul was hard at work all weekend long (except for the frequent breaks to the afore mentioned beer garden) running sound for the dance performances.

Tacoma looks pretty nice from this vantage point on a sunny, summer afternoon.
