College Fjord

Our last day at sea we passed through College Fjord. The weather was so spectacular that we might have enjoyed the glaciers here more so than the ones in Glacier Bay that we got closer to.

At the end of the fjord are glaciers named for Harvard (left) and Yale (right). They are huge and look magnificant in the bright Alaska sunshine.

College Fjord was discovered in 1899 by an expedition led by a Harvard and an Amherst professors. They named the different glaciers after prestigious east coast schools, taking great delight in ignoring Princeton.

We are only a few more hours til we dock in Whittier and our cruise will end. This experience truly exceeded any expectation that we ever had. All of the superlatives that you have heard about cruising Alaska and the Inside Passage really pale in comparison to actually being there. So if you never thought you wanted to take a cruise (like me), treat yourself to a week in a big boat off of the coast of Alaska and I will guarentee that you won't be sorry.
