Skagway - The Peter Tour

When I got my cruise packet and realized that Skagway was a port of call, I called Peter. Peter grew up in Skagway and it is a place still very near and dear to his heart. Lucky for us, Peter had no difficulty in telling me where to go.

First stop was the "Delectible Jewell Gardens" Tour. Jewell Gardens is owned by Charolette Jewell, a good friend of Peter's. Gardening and Peter, now that is a surprise. Peter said I need to see the delphiniums. They were spectacular as well as the rest of the gardens. Skagway is known as the garden city of Alaska and has an annual garden contest to show off the locals passion for all things growing.

Dedman's is not only the oldest family owned business in Skagway, but was the employer of Peter for more than 15 years.

Next on the list was Tina Cyr, a classmate of Peter's. Skagway City School is a K-12 school and currently has 109 students. It's a place where you really get to know each other. Tina owns a shop in town called Skagway Artworks. Tina has the nicest things to say about Peter (who doesn't?). According to Tina, Peter's wicked sense of humor goes way back, keeping her laughing all the way through school.

Another great source of Peter information is his sister Durcie. Peter was born when Durcie was a senior in high school. The baby of the family, his older siblings thought he could do no wrong and they would get very upset at their parents when they would discipline little Petey.

This is the back of the house that Peter spent most of his time growing up. He planted a beautiful garden here and was famous around town. The back of the house is just across the street from the church where Peter sang.

This is the church that Peter sang in. Durcie says that she would be visiting her Mom and they could here Peter as he walked home from choir practice, singing all the way.
